Moment of Bliss

Moment of Bliss
I wish I wanted things to never change
The echo of the empty room
Reminded him of being the
First to arrive anywhere.
I wonder what it would have felt
Like to stay
Or to have left and not returned
He tiptoes along a
wire between doubt and
Expectation, dangling
A quarter inch above potential

One fewer haircut
Two fewer flights
And one more night
Would have made the
Difference- and
She knows it
And won’t admit it.
Repeat the order
Enter two rooms in the
Same evening
Just to listen and learn
In silence
Then the unnecessarily long
Route home
What would have happened
If i wouldn’t have
Left until September
Like everyone else

They shut off all the
lights
And complained about
The darkness
For years.
The stories are all
True
Or at least the intention is
Always true and usually real.
I weave in and out
Navigating the perils
And pitfalls of my own
Creation
Staring, blinkless to the
West through a
Thick and lingering
Fog of confidence-covered
Doubt.
Limiting
Limiting my vision
Blurring the distance
Gray and obscured
I approach
Not timid, not cautious.
They say there is a
Moment of bliss
Before the ending
An ending
My ending.
